Where & How to Use a Ceiling Fan The Vari-Fan can be operated at 12or 24V DC. At 12V DC, the Vari-Fan is very effective at distributing warm air evenly throughout a room. The fan should be mounted in the hottest area of the room, i.e., near the peak of a vaulted ceiling or near the heat source (never over) in a conventional room with a low flat ceiling. If you are trying to move air from one room to another, we recommend installing two Vari-Fans - one in the room that is too warm and a second in the middle of the cooler room to pick up and distribute the warm air. In rooms of over 500 sq. ft. (15.4 sq. m.) or with ceilings over 15 ft. (4.5 m) high, two Vari-Fans will be more effective than one. At 24V DC, the Vari-Fan is not only effective at distributing warm air but can also deliver a cooling breeze on those hot and humid days. We strongly recommend you install a speed control when operating the Vari-Fan at 24 volts especially if the fan is mounted at a ceiling height of 9 ft. (2.7 m) or less. The Vari-Fan at 24V DC will be most effective in rooms of 700 sq. ft. (21.7 sq. m.) or less. Larger rooms may require two or more fans.
